Paleo Flours

When following a Paleo lifestyle, finding the right flours for baking and cooking can be really helpful. There are about 50 different Paleo-friendly flours out there, and it can feel like a lot when you’re trying to make things like cookies or thicken sauces. These flours let you stick to a grain-free diet while still making yummy food.

I personally keep failing at making Paleo pancakes, but I’m not giving up! One time, I used coconut flour for pancakes-nope! With so many flours to choose from, I know I’ll find the right one soon. Arrowroot is my favorite for thickening any sauces.

Some of the popular Paleo flours include:

  • Almond Flour
  • Coconut Flour
  • Cassava Flour
  • Tapioca Flour
  • Arrowroot Flour

In addition to these popular choices, there are many other Paleo flours that provide unique flavors and textures. Using a variety of flours in your cooking allows for more creativity and nutrition in your meals. Some of these include:

  • Tigernut Flour | Acorn Flour | Walnut Flour | Chia Seed Flour

  • Sesame Seed Flour | Flaxseed Meal | Pecan Flour | Durian Seed Flour
  • Water Chestnut Flour | Carob Flour | Sweet Chestnut Flour | Coconut Milk Powder Flour
  • Sacha Inchi Flour | Celeriac Flour | Zucchini Flour | Beetroot Flour

If you are just starting to cook or have been cooking for a long time, trying these flours can be fun. You can mix different flours together to make new textures and tastes. You can also use them in your favorite recipes, but with a Paleo twist. Keeping different flours at home will help you cook tasty meals that fit the Paleo diet.

  1. You did a fantastic job explaining the different options and their unique benefits, especially how you highlighted which ones work best for baking versus cooking. I was particularly interested in your take on almond flour and its versatility. Quick question: do you have a favorite recipe that you think really showcases the best qualities of coconut flour? I’d love to give it a try!

    • Thank you so much! I’m glad you found the information helpful. I’m still pretty new to working with these flours myself and just started a few months ago. I haven’t given up on mastering coconut flour yet! One flour I’ve been enjoying is arrowroot.  It’s great for thickening sauces, similar to cornstarch. Once I’ve experimented more and found a recipe that really works, I’d love to share it with you!

  2. Thank you for this informative article on paleo flours!

As a mom who recently found out that I’m gluten intolerant, I’m eager to explore healthy alternatives for my family’s meals. I’m particularly interested in trying almond flour, but I’m curious about the best recipes to start with that can help ease the transition.

Do you have any tips for adapting traditional recipes using these flours without compromising on taste or texture? I can’t wait to experiment with these alternatives and see how they work in my favorite dishes!

    • Thank you so much for your comment! I’m happy to hear you’re trying new gluten-free options for your family. I’ve mostly used arrowroot flour for thickening sauces, and it works great for that. I’m still learning and trying out other flours to make yummy meals, snacks, and baked goods.

If you’re changing recipes, start small, like using arrowroot to thicken sauces or trying coconut or cassava flour in baking. I’ll keep working on more ideas and share them. I’d love to hear how your cooking goes too!
