Chili And Chinese Buffet Experiences October 13-14 And 17

October 13-14 Experiences

On October 13, my husband made a hearty chili (my husband’s recipe) that slowly cooked overnight, filling the house with delicious aromas. He used Ragu sauce and chili seasonings, making it approximately 50% Paleo, as beans are not Paleo. I enjoyed less than a quarter cup alongside my cooked scrambled eggs. Keeping at least 50% appreciation once a week for Paleo is essential for my well-being, and this chili allowed me to appreciate my husband’s cooking, even though he doesn’t follow a Paleo diet, while staying mindful of my dietary choices.

October 17 Experience

On October 17, we decided to enjoy a Chinese buffet in Wilkes-Barre, PA, as my husband requested a break from my cooking routine. I carefully chose from the buffet, selecting just two slices of sushi without cream cheese, knowing that rice is not Paleo. I limited my intake to about less than 1/16 cup since too much rice can affect my skin. I also enjoyed fresh cucumbers for hydration and cold cooked shrimp, which were delightful. For the chicken, beef, and vegetables, I looked for less or no sauce to fit my dietary needs. However, I faced disappointment with the water, which was horrible. Instead, I received a plateful of fruits including cantaloupe, oranges, and grapes as a drink alternative. Even with the challenges, I was pleased with my choices, staying 99% Paleo while enjoying a meal out.

In conclusion, both days highlighted my appreciation for following a Paleo lifestyle while also finding joy in family meals. Whether it was enjoying my husband’s chili or exploring the buffet, I make mindful food choices that support my health and well-being. I truly appreciate my husband’s efforts in the kitchen, and together, we share a love for food that strengthens our bond.

  1. HI!

This is a nice read as I shared in your experience of sharing in meals that you would normally eat because of your Paleo diet. It’s good to know that you can indulge occasionally on this diet and probably most diets that are not driven totally by health needs (such as Gluten free for Celiac. You can’t be flexible with that one!).

It sounds like you are on Paleo because of some conditions and allergies. I don’t have food allergies so I am not limited, but is Paleo good for a person that just wants to lose weight? I lost weight on the Keto diet a few years ago, but I gained much it back. I need to be on a diet that I can truly enjoy and make it a lifestyle.

    • Thanks for sharing! I actually started Paleo to figure out my food sensitivities, not for weight loss, but I found it naturally helped with that too. Paleo can be a great option for weight loss because it focuses on whole, unprocessed foods and you don’t have to count calories. It’s more flexible than Keto, allowing for a wider variety of foods, which makes it easier to turn into a long-lasting lifestyle. It’s a great opportunity for those who struggle with weight loss without feeling restricted!
