10 Health Benefits Of Using Ghee In Your Paleo Diet

Ghee, a type of clarified butter from ancient India, is a fantastic addition to your Paleo diet. It’s rich in vitamins A, E, and K, and healthy fats. Ghee is made by simmering butter to remove water and milk solids, leaving behind pure butterfat. This process gives ghee a nutty flavor and makes it stable at high temperatures.

Ghee fits perfectly into the Paleo diet because it’s free from lactose and casein, making it a great alternative to dairy. Using ghee can provide:

  • Sustained Energy: Ghee contains healthy fats that keep you full and fueled throughout the day.
  • Gut Health: The butyrate in ghee supports a healthy digestive system and keeps your gut functioning smoothly.
  • Weight Management: Ghee contains CLA, a fatty acid associated with reducing body fat and building lean muscle.
  • Anti-Inflammatory Benefits: Ghee’s anti-inflammatory properties can help with joint pain and minor skin irritations.
  • Immune Support: Packed with antioxidants, ghee strengthens your immune system and fights off free radicals.
  • Enhanced Nutrient Absorption: The fats in ghee improve your body’s ability to absorb essential vitamins and minerals from other foods.
  • Skin Health: Ghee’s fatty acids and vitamins nourish your skin, keeping it soft and hydrated.
  • Heart Health: Ghee can support healthy cholesterol levels by boosting good cholesterol (HDL) and potentially lowering bad cholesterol (LDL).
  • Joint Flexibility: Ghee’s anti-inflammatory properties help maintain joint lubrication and flexibility.
  • Brain Function: The Omega-3 and Omega-9 fatty acids in ghee support cognitive function and memory.

I personally use ghee mostly for cooking steak, as it adds a rich, nutty flavor and fits perfectly into my Paleo lifestyle.

  1. Where is the best place to find Ghee? Is it something that has to be refrigerated or is it something you can get online? What brand do you recommend? We live in somewhat of a rural setting and we wanted to know if it is something you could get online or if it had to be purchased at a store. Thanks for your help.

    • I’ve bought ghee sometimes from grocery stores, sometimes from Amazon—whichever is convenient.  I don’t have a specific brand preference. Living out in the sticks, I often order online, but if you have a grocery store nearby, you should be able to find it there too. I keep mine on the countertop, where it’s sometimes solid and sometimes liquid depending on the room temperature, but if you want it to stay solid, you can refrigerate it. Thank you for taking the time to look at my website!
